Sensory gardens
The Bupa sensory gardens project was launched in 2002 and since then has successfully engaged over 200 local communities in helping to create 263 sensory gardens for Bupa care homes around UK.
Care homes that have been selected have either adapted an existing area or created a new garden area that appeals to all the senses through the use of colours, smells, textures and sounds. Residents, family, friends and the care homes' local community have reaped the health benefits associated with gardening activities and have been able to take advantage of the sensory stimulation.
Each participating home received a grant to spend on plants, tools and garden features, as well as support from Bupa Community Connections to engage the local community in the project.
It's a wonderful sense of achievement to see the garden now that plans have come to fruition and to see the enjoyment and pleasure it brings the residents. Brookside Residential Home
