Communi-tea week
Communi-tea Week was launched in April 2007 and is a joint project between Community Connections and BUPA Care Services, sponsored by Tetleys and McVities. The event is designed to tackle the issue of loneliness in older people using tea as a theme.
In 2006 220 homes took part in the event and many co-ordinated the activity to support Parkinson's Awareness Week and raised funds for Parkinson's Disease Society.
During Communi-tea Week, older people who live on their own in the local community are invited into the care home to meet the residents and join in the fun and informative tea-related activities.
The event takes place every year and each participating home receives a Communi-tea Week pack containing posters, invites, speciality teas and balloons, as well as £150 grant to help towards entertainment on the day from Community Connections.
So far the programme has been a huge success with both staff and visitors enjoying the day. One attendee said of the day: "...It has been a delightful day. It has been so good to be able to come here and talk to other people my age..."
