Fit4Life with Life Education
Fit4Life is a volunteering scheme for BUPA employees aimed at encouraging children and BUPA staff to be fit and active in their lunchtimes. The programme came about following research highlighting that 18 percent of London children are overweight, two percent above the national average.
Fit4Life was created in association with BUPA's national partner, Life Education, a charitable organisation dedicated to helping children meet national curriculum requirements on personal, social and health education.
How does it work?
BUPA Fit4Life volunteers spend one lunch hour a week to help children at a local primary school playing structured games. The aim is to improve their confidence, social skills and help them to make healthy and positive choices.
All of the activities taught during the session are in line with the Key Stage 1 curriculum and include throwing and catching, running, jumping, and hoping, as well as working together in a group.
Training is given to each volunteer beforehand to give them the confidence and skills to communicate with the children effectively, use their time appropriately and most importantly, to have fun!
