BUPA initiatives
Life Education mobile classroom
BUPA and Life Education are a national partnership extending health education to primary schools across the country. Life Education provides mobile classrooms reaching 850,000 children, and their aim is to reach 1 million children by the end of 2005. It's the largest charity of its kind, building links with local schools, teachers, parents and the wider community to encourage healthy lifestyles and promote recognised best practise in health education.
Life Education helps meet National Curriculum requirements on Personal, Social and Health Education and they support parents and carers to help them gain a deeper understanding of health issues.
Classrooms are fitted with a range of teaching equipment, that visit primary schools advising pupils to take responsibility for their health and avoid drugs and alcohol.
The aim is to develop children's esteem and sense of individuality so that they are better able to deal with social and peer-group pressures. Rather than being told not to take drugs, the children gain knowledge of the dangers and the confidence to say no.
BUPA aims to contribute resources for mobile classrooms, and employee-led staff volunteering, giving time and energy to Life Education's local projects, to fundraising events and to activities in schools and with parents. BUPA also aims to act as a catalyst to encourage other businesses to get involved with Life Education, beginning with local events to promote corporate partnerships with the charity.
