Real stars recognised at Teddies shine awards29 February 2008With the Oscars now rolled away for another year, the real stars from BUPA-run Teddies nurseries were rewarded for their contributions to childcare at this month's SHINE awards – with Teddies nursery in Bexleyheath scooping two awards. First, Teddies Bexleyheath took the title of Best Overall Nursery, a reflection of its 'outstanding' rating by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) – a rating held by only 27 nurseries in England. Nursery manager at Teddies Bexleyheath, Mandy Penfold said: "We are all thrilled to win this award. We have established exceptional relationships with parents, which is a credit to the whole team. "OFSTED praised the team for being 'very imaginative' and showing 'dedication to each and every child', even commenting that the parent partnership was the 'best seen'." As well as the Best Overall Nursery Award, Bexleyheath also rewarded nursery nurse Doreen Austin with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognises more than five years of dedicated service. Doreen said: "I am delighted. It's a wonderful honour to get rewarded for doing a job I love." Other awards that made the evening a glittering success included recognition to the Most Outstanding Nursery Nurse, the Most Outstanding Head of Unit, the Most Outstanding Nursery Unit and the staff member that had showed 'Best Continuous Development'. Carole Edmond, Teddies managing director, said: "We had a fantastic year in 2007 and these awards are about celebrating the hard work put in by all our teams. Teddies, which joined BUPA in 2000, run day nurseries for children aged between three months and school age. It is one of the largest nursery chains in the UK with an average 3,000 children nationwide attending one of the 34 nurseries every weekday. Visit the Teddies website.
