Bupa announces sponsorship of Commit to Get Fit®

4 April 2006

Bupa Health Insurance will be sponsoring this summer’s national Commit to Get Fit® campaign for the second year running, in a bid to encourage over 100,000 people to make regular exercise a part of their lives.

Beginning on 1 July, Commit to Get Fit® is a Government backed, month-long fitness campaign, run by the Fitness Industry Association (FIA). The campaign offers people of all ages the opportunity to benefit from special introductory offers at over 500 health clubs and leisure centres across the country.

Bupa Health Insurance’s Jenni Wilson, commented on the partnership: “BUPA is dedicated to providing services to help people improve their health and, through sponsoring Commit to Get Fit®, we aim to encourage more people to lead an active life.

"We believe that the combined endorsement of Bupa, the FIA and the NHS will give people who don’t currently take regular exercise the confidence to try their local gym or leisure centre, knowing that the campaign is backed by experts in health and fitness.”

Commit to Get Fit® will offer people practical help and advice on how to incorporate physical activity into their lives, while providing access to quality facilities and well-trained instructors. The special introductory offer is open to everyone, and will help thousands of people across the country feel better about themselves, and take the first steps to a fitter, healthier life.

Bupa will support Commit to Get Fit® through a dedicated marketing and PR campaign, which will raise awareness of its sponsorship among its three million insured members, 42,000 staff and Bupa customers.

The company already has a longstanding relationship with gyms and health clubs across the country through its Fitness Connections scheme, which provides its members with discounted membership from a network of 900 Bupa-approved health and fitness clubs.

This year Commit to Get Fit® will raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. Bupa’s Community Connections has pledged to match fund money raised by its people through Commit to Get Fit®.

Bupa also sponsors the Great Runs series including the Bupa Great North Run, the Bupa Great South Run and the Bupa Great Manchester Run. The ‘Running with Bupa’ website offers clear information and guidance for everyone from beginners to regular runners at www.bupa.co.uk/about/asp/running.
