Nurses and consultants top the charts say Bupa members
4 July 2006
Consultants and nursing staff at more than 400 private and NHS hospitals across the Bupa network, were given top marks for service in the latest member satisfaction survey from Bupa health insurance.
In the UK’s only survey of private and NHS hospitals, 97 percent of Bupa’s insured members said they would recommend the treatment they received in hospital to a friend or relative.
Nursing staff were highly praised for their attentiveness, level of efficiency, general attitude and keeping patients informed about their treatment. Similarly, consultants scored well on their communication with patients who praised their listening skills and the time and information provided to them when discussing treatment options. In addition, almost all (98 percent) of those surveyed would recommend the services of their chosen consultant to friends or relatives.
Accommodation and hospital facilities were also given the thumbs up by members with 94 percent saying the standards met or exceeded their expectations.
Almost three quarters (74 percent) of members rated their overall level of comfort as very good or excellent and 84 percent rated their hospital and room accommodation as very clean. More than half rated the quality of food as excellent or very good.
Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald, medical director, Bupa Health Insurance comments on the findings: “Results from our latest member survey are very encouraging. We are pleased that the majority of our members rate their hospital stay and overall service as excellent. We also have the opportunity to respond to feedback which is less positive to ensure that standards are raised further.”
Positive comments were also made about patients’ choice and availability of admission date, information provided before admission, parking facilities as well as recovery and aftercare support.
