Dreams come true for Bupa staff
05 April 2004
Dreams have become reality for 28 people across the UK from Bupa Care Homes. Twenty members of staff have won a holiday worth £2,500 in a £50,000 prize draw and eight care home managers are fulfilling their ambitions as winners of a “Wishes Come True” competition. Bupa Care Services ran the competitions to thank its staff for their hard work during the past year and their prizes will be taken throughout 2004.
Mark Ellerby, managing director of Bupa Care Services, said: “The last year has been a successful one and we want to show how much we value what our people do. We have achieved a good financial result and seen increases in both employee and customer satisfaction. Care Services has also retained Investor in People status, demonstrating our continuing commitment to training and development and has won two contracts to build and to run care homes for local authorities.”
“Bupa Care Services employs approximately 28,000 people including carers, nurses, maintenance and hotel services staff, administrative and management staff in over 250 sites around the UK. Our people do a fantastic job, sometimes under difficult circumstances in a low paid sector where there can be a high level of staff turnover and retention of staff is an important issue. This is the first time we have run these initiatives, which are designed to reward our people and give the winners an experience of a lifetime. The prize draw and competition have been very well received,” said Julia Hurst, Bupa Care Services’ human resources director.
All care home managers were asked what their greatest wish would be and a panel selected the best ones. These include a promise to return to a school in a South African township and a semi-professional singer’s wish of seeking professional advice on singing from Carrie Grant of UK TV talent show ‘Fame Academy’.
The holiday prize draw winners were randomly chosen. People will be jetting off on a variety of trips from a care assistant taking her husband to Mexico for his 50th birthday to some staff going abroad for the first time to Switzerland and Cyprus and family reunions in Australia, Texas and Spain.
