Health boost for Guernsey

A new health assessment centre is to be opened in Guernsey on 21 September 2005, offering local people and businesses the opportunity to make health worries a thing of the past.
The opening of a new Bupa Wellness centre in partnership with L'Aumone and St Sampsons Medical Practice means that a choice of comprehensive health assessments are now available in the area, open to all island residents.
Catering for a variety of individual requirements, Bupa health assessments cover everything from general health tests, heart and lung, and lifestyle examinations to gender specific, and blood and urine testing. Bupa Wellness evaluation research shows that 74 percent of people were prompted to make positive changes to their lifestyle after their health assessment and in one in three people Bupa identified a health issue they were unaware of, including heart disease and cancer.
Local businesses will also benefit from the new centre. A business’s employees are its most important asset and by looking after the health of its people businesses benefit from reduced sickness absence, increased productivity and an enhanced image. Illnesses that are diagnosed at an early stage can often be treated more successfully and long stays off work avoided.
Heather Gibbs, practice manager at the Bupa Health Assessment Centre in Guernsey said: “Taking a health assessment is a really good way of keeping ourselves on track. It’s an excellent way of finding health problems at an early stage which, in turn, offers more of a chance of successful treatment.”
Most test results are available immediately and people have an opportunity to discuss the findings in depth with a doctor. This is combined with a full written report including advice on lifestyle changes, which will improve the client’s health. A range of health assessments are available with a Key Health assessment costing £260.
