More NHS patients could benefit from home healthcare

7 January 2008

Patients and the NHS could benefit from treating even more people in their own homes, says Clinovia the leading provider of home healthcare services in the UK.

The company supports the findings in a new report, which claims up to a third of NHS patients with MRSA could be discharged from hospital and treated with antibiotics at home.

Clinovia, which is a part of the Bupa Group, provides comprehensive home healthcare for more than 9,500 NHS patients a month with a wide range of medical and chronic conditions, so they can enjoy a better quality of life.”

Managing director Robbie Burns said:
“We have been treating NHS patients at home with intravenous antibiotics and other supported therapies for many years and believe that many patients with MRSA could be supported in a similar way.

“We already work with many PCTs and acute hospitals in support of the Government’s policy of treating more people in their own homes or in the community, so we fully understand the advantages for both for the patient and the NHS’s resources.”
