Bupa runs offer party atmosphere and scenic views
09 February 2004
If you’re considering taking part in a half marathon or a charity fun run then the party atmosphere and scenic views of several Bupa runs may make the task of running long-distance easier.
The Bupa Great North Run, the world’s biggest half-marathon, has been voted the third most atmospheric run in the February edition of Runner’s World magazine. The 47,000 participants and the lively crowd keep the runners motivated on the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields. The 10 km Bupa Great Caledonian Run in the picturesque grounds of the Balmoral Estate has been voted the most scenic run, ideal for those wanting to run whilst taking in the view. The Bupa Great South Run is also listed in the Runner’s World top ten.
Shorter runs include Bupa Feetbeat held in London’s beautiful Hyde Park and the newest 10 km run, the Bupa Great Manchester Run. Whether you’re a novice and want to get started or a regular runner you can log onto Bupa’s running website www.bupa.co.uk/running for training schedules and tips on running, training, exercise and general health information.
Dr Andrew Vallance-Owen, Bupa’s medical director and a runner, says: "We encourage everyone to take an active interest in their own health and running is a great way to keep fit as well as raising money for charity. For the fourth year we have nominated Leukaemia Research Fund as our charity for the Bupa Great Run Series and we aim to help them raise a significant amount of money. This is the 12th year that Bupa has sponsored the Great Run Series"
