Bupa launches biketastic new website
9 June 2004
To mark National Bike Week, which runs from 12-20 June, Bupa has launched a cycling and health website - www.bupa.co.uk/biketastic. The site provides health information, ideas and advice to encourage people who are new to cycling or who haven’t cycled since their teens, to get back on their bikes.
"Small lifestyle changes, such as getting more active, can make a big difference to health and wellbeing. Cycling is a great way to improve your fitness and regular cyclists, are likely to reap significant health benefits," says Dr Annabel Bentley, Bupa’s assistant medical director. "Cycling can help you develop strength and stamina, change your shape, stay trim and even change your mood. It’s also an inexpensive, fun and sociable way to get about and you’re guaranteed lean legs and great glutes, so get pedalling!"
Bupa’s cycling and health website - www.bupa.co.uk/biketastic - looks at the positive impact that regular cycling can have on health and provides information on how to get the most out of cycling. Topics covered include details on how cycling can benefit your health, advice on buying a bike and where to go for information on cycling events, days out and holidays. Further health information, health factsheets on common medical conditions and questionnaires and quizzes to help people make other lifestyle changes to benefit their health, such as stopping smoking, improving diet, increasing fitness levels or managing stress, are available free of charge at www.bupa.co.uk.
Bupa is also supporting Leukaemia Research by encouraging Bupa people working in its hospitals, screening centres, nurseries, insurance call centres, care homes and offices to get on their bikes and take part in Leukaemia Research’s Bikeathon and Big Bikeathon events across the country this summer. If you would like to use your pedal power to help beat leukaemia and enjoy a great day out, log on to www.lrf.org.uk/en/1/bikeathons.html or www.bigbikeathon.co.uk.
