Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex officially opens local nursing centre

Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex will officially open Bupa’s St Mark’s Nursing Centre, Maidenhead on Wednesday 14 December.
The Countess of Wessex, who will be joined by a host of local dignitaries, will take a tour of the centre and meet with some of the residents and patients, before unveiling a plaque.
The Lord Lieutenant, the Mayor and Mayoress, Theresa May, MP and representatives from Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead Primary Care Trust, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Bupa Care Homes will all be at the event.
The 80 bed purpose-built centre, which is located alongside St Mark’s Hospital, opened in April 2005. The centre offers 60 beds for elderly frail nursing and residential care, providing quality long-term care for older people in the Maidenhead area. There are 20 beds for short-stay rehabilitation for NHS patients to help them get out of hospital quicker and stay in their homes for longer. 20 of the beds at the centre are reserved for residents funded by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Bupa is currently applying to re-register 20 of the nursing beds as dementia care beds due to a real need in the area.
The two-storey building includes en-suite bathrooms to all 80 bedrooms and special features including adjoining rooms for partners and extensive occupational and physiotherapy facilities.
Alistair How, regional director of Bupa Care Homes, commented: “The success of this project is testament to the excellent relationship we have had with everyone involved in bringing this development to Maidenhead. We have already had very positive feedback from the new residents and their families and we look forward to continuing to provide them with a first class service.
“We are very pleased to be able to re-register 20 of the beds at St Mark’s for dementia care due to a real need for this type of care in the area.”
Sally Kemp, chairman of Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead Primary Care Trust said: “The nursing centre is an excellent example of an effective partnership between the NHS and private sector bringing real benefits for patients. It is an important addition to the range of local services available to local people.”
