Bupa fantasy football kick-off
12 August 2004
Intermediaries who fancy themselves as football managers are invited to kick off the 2004/ 2005-football season by playing fantasy football in a league of their own as part of Bupa's sponsorship of the Daily Telegraph Fantasy Football League. Entry is free.
With an imaginary budget of up to £50 million to spend on players, intermediaries will compete against each other by scoring points in all Premiership and FA Cup matches. A weekly update will be sent to intermediaries giving details of the top ten teams as well as the worst performing team. Posters will also be available so that the league can be promoted in intermediaries' offices.
The manager of the team that tops the intermediary league at the end of the season will win a VIP day out to see a 2005/ 2006 Premiership game of their choice and there are prizes for the two runners-up. Each manager of the month will receive a case of wine and the top 10 managers will each receive a bottle of champagne in the week before Christmas.
Steve Flanagan, commercial director for Bupa Insurance said: "around a quarter of a million players took part in last season's Telegraph league. Most of them are relatively affluent young men aged between 18 and 35 and are very likely to be interested in buying private medical insurance but may not have previously considered it as being relevant to them at this stage in their lives. This is an important audience for both Bupa and our intermediary partners.
"We also recognise that intermediaries provide us with a valuable link to people who are considering purchasing health services and wanted to thank them for their ongoing support as well as give them a little light relief from their day jobs."
Under the sponsorship agreement with the Daily Telegraph, Bupa's name will appear on newspaper, TV advertising and website promotions throughout the football season.
