Bupa health checks help boost charity donation
12 September 2005
Fundraising fitness health checks are being prescribed at the Great North Sport and Fitness Show as fitness fever grips the North East and the region gears up for the world largest half marathon - the Bupa Great North Run.
Four Bupa health advisors will be on hand to administer on the spot cholesterol and blood pressure tests and advice. All the money raised will be donated to charity.
“It’s our biggest stand ever this year and as before we’re asking the people who are taking the tests to donate five pounds,“ says Linda Kirby, the Wellness Unit Manager at the Bupa Hospital Washington.
“BUPA will then match the total amount made and all the money goes to the Leukaemia Research Fund. It was a great success last year and not only helps people focus on their own health and fitness, but raise lots of money to support those people who are less fortunate.”
This year the Bupa Wellness stand has four private cubicles for the health assessments and the test results will be available immediately, as will advice. “As it is the 25th anniversary of the Great North Run and this year’s Great North Sport and Fitness Show is bigger and better than ever - there’s a real healthy buzz about the North East and we expect to be very busy,” adds Linda Kirby.
The Great North Sport and Fitness Show will be showcased on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 of September. Designed to appeal to all people with an interest in sport and a healthy lifestyle, visitors can learn about fun ways of improving their fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle.
The show is an exciting component of the Bupa Great North Run week of sporting activities. All Bupa Great North Runners are entitled to free entry to the exhibition.
Based on the themes of Health, Fitness and Sport, the show is designed to deliver information to all age groups on the benefits of an active lifestyle and participation in sport. The exhibition will consist of a variety of 'Zones' promoting numerous elements of health and fitness.
Runners, spectators and the general public can interact with the sport and fitness industry all under one roof. The show will cover over 3,200m² of floor space in the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena with additional outside activities.
