New meeting area created for Oasis Health Centre

On Friday, 18 July, volunteers from Bupa's medical team will be swapping their suits and PCs for overalls and paintbrushes to convert a residential flat into a meeting area for the Oasis health centre in Southwark. The centre is a primary health facility for the homeless and volunteers are undertaking the challenge as part of Bupa's Community Connections programme.
The team will be washing down walls, painting and decorating three rooms to create a new meeting facility, where people can discuss their health concerns in confidence and privacy with qualified staff. The centre based in Lambeth Road provides medical care for homeless people in the local area. As well as employing a full-time nurse, it also offers shower and laundry facilities, a hairdresser, chiropodist and dentist for those who struggle to access mainstream health care for a variety of reasons.
Rachel Hobson, deputy manager at the Oasis Health Centre said "The Oasis Trust is grateful for the support Bupa people have shown homeless people this summer. The new meeting area will enable us to help more people look after themselves."
Monica Owen, Bupa's community affairs manager, says: "Bupa supports several facilities for homeless people around the UK. This challenge is a great opportunity for Bupa staff in London to help the local community, as well as join in with some team building. As a health care company, we are delighted that our volunteers can get involved in transforming a much needed space for this primary health centre."
