Weight loss guide gains industry excellence award
11 November 2005
A handy guide to weight-loss surgery from Bupa has been highly commended by the British Medical Association in its annual patient information awards.
Bupa’s Weight-loss surgery booklet was placed in the top 12 out of 220 entrants. The 30-page booklet is given to people considering surgery at Bupa hospitals and helps people to decide if weight-loss surgery is the right choice for them. It gives details of various types of surgery available, looks at the pros and cons of each and gives advice on what to expect afterwards.
Bupa’s health information team picked up two accolades at the awards, reinforcing the value of ensuring clear patient understanding.
The Healthier living book, given to health assessment customers at Bupa Wellness centres, was commended. The book is full of information to help customers look after their health and get the most out of life.
Bupa’s Health editor Camilla Hammill said: “We have a wealth of information available to Bupa patients and to the public through our website. We work extremely hard to ensure it is of a very high standard and these awards confirm we are achieving that.”
The BMA’s patient information awards aim to encourage the production, dissemination and evaluation of accessible, evidence-based and well-designed patient information, which will promote both greater awareness and understanding of health matters, and patient choices.
