Industry first link between Scottish Care Commission and Bupa
20 September 2005
A senior manager from The Scottish Commission for Regulation and Care is to take up a two year secondment with Bupa Care Homes in the newly created position of Quality and Compliance Manager - the first time an independent care home organisation has linked up with a regulatory body.
Alice Timmons will be responsible for oversight of care standards in Bupa’s care homes in Scotland and the North East of England as well as ensuring compliance with the legislation that impacts on Bupa’s care home business. This will include auditing services, giving advice and guidance to managers as well as ensuring an adherence to Bupa’s policies and procedures.
Bob Maclean, regional director north, Bupa Care Homes commented: “Alice’s experience and skills in the social care environment will be a major asset to Bupa and will help ensure we continue to provide an excellent level of care to our residents, particularly in Scotland.”
Liz Norton, Director of Adult Services Regulation for the Care Commission, added: “This link will help us to keep in touch with the issues facing providers, and gather fresh evidence about how we can improve the process of regulation. We are always keen to work in partnership with providers, and we will look at the possibility of similar placements in the future if this is successful.”
Ms Timmons, who has worked for the Care Commission since April 2002, is responsible for the management, supervision and guidance of a team of Care Commission Officers who regulate services in the fields of health, social care and early years. She has a wide range of experience gained during her career with the NHS, the private sector, field social work and in registration and inspection within social work, Health and the Care Commission. Before joining the Scottish Commission for Regulation and Care she worked for Forth Valley Health Board, East Dunbartonshire Council, Strathclyde Regional Council and Argyll and Clyde Health Board.
