Local charity gets a helping hand
22 July 2005
The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE) based in Lingfield, Surrey, is to receive a complete staff room makeover on Thursday 21 July. The refurbishment is taking place as a Community Connections Challenge by 25 of Bupa’s employees from Staines.
All the funding that NYCPE receives goes towards the school and the students, there are 170 students ranging from 5-19 and each has mentoring from a one-to-one carer all day. The staff work exceptionally hard and the nature of their task means it is very tiring. Their staff room is being revamped to make it a comfortable and peaceful place where they will enjoy their well deserved breaks. The room will have new tables, cushions, a kettle and microwave as well as a new stereo.
"We are delighted and thankful to receive such huge support from Bupa. The transformation of the rest room is a huge benefit for us, we have done these challenges in the past and they are always fun too," said Peter Moxley, from NCYPE.
“The idea is to create a chill out area where NCYPE staff can relax and feel better as their job is very stressful,” said Samantha Stanley, from Bupa.
Bupa challenges are run across the UK, over 1-3 days, and are organised by Bupa’s Community Connections to support local community facilities. The programme aims to connect people who want to help out in their local community. More than 1,000 Bupa people have taken part in over 25 different team challenges since the launch in 2001.
