Response to Laing & Buisson Report 2005
22 July 2005
Fergus Kee, managing director of Bupa Insurance said:
“The figures confirm that customers recognise and value the benefits of private healthcare as much as ever. It’s not just about immediate access, it’s also about control, having real choice and being treated as a customer.
“A clean, infection-free environment is also important. Access to clean hospitals is now given as one of the top reasons to have private medical insurance, according to Bupa’s annual Health of the Nation research.
“Corporate customers in particular value the private sector’s contribution as more and more companies are focusing on the broader contribution private healthcare makes through services such as the management of sickness absence and rehabilitation to get employees back to work and help corporate Britain.
“Whilst the figures are encouraging, the top challenge for the industry to maintain this trend is affordability. There is an urgent need for health insurers, hospitals and the medical profession to work together to deliver healthcare more cost effectively and reduce the rate of premium increases.”
