Salford Quays is king of Children in Need
22 November 2005
It was viva Las Vegas for Children in Need on Friday night when 180 Bupa call handling employees at Bupa Insurance in Salford Quays dressed up in costumes from Elvis films while taking the public’s telephone donations for the charity.
The Bupa volunteers manned 90 red-hot donation lines during the exciting evening, as the nation enjoyed watching show stopping performances by Madonna, KT Tunstall, Liberty X and the Sugababes. The Salford Quays site was selected as the main site in the North West taking calls for the charity and the team took 8,000 calls that generated around £250,000 in pledges and donations.
An Elvis impersonator kept the tempo and rhythm swinging throughout the night as he serenaded the call-handling volunteers.
"The atmosphere on the night was fabulous,” said Sarah Cooke a Bupa employee who took part in the event. “All those that took part on the night, and leading up to it, worked extremely hard. Knowing that we were the main call centre in the North West that took part in the event is something we should all be very proud of. It's brilliant to have had the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives.”
