Somerset care home is spruced up thanks to Bupa
23 April 2008
Facilities for older people at a local Somerset care home, The Glen, have been given a major boost thanks to an investment of £300,000 by Bupa, one of the UK's leading care home providers.
Thanks to the investment, The Glen, located in Evercreech near Shepton Mallet, now offers its residents the very latest entertainment technology, including large flat screen televisions in living areas for everyone to enjoy. The home has also been redecorated and new carpets, curtains and furniture have been introduced throughout, all of which have been carefully chosen to ensure the character and original features of the period house, built in 1903, are maintained.
The walled gardens in the home's grounds have also been landscaped to include a sensory garden with a water feature, surrounded by an array of trees and shrubs.
The development has proved a real hit for the residents and their families as well as all the staff at The Glen and is part of Bupa's multi-million pound investment in the UK care homes sector, to help improve the standards of care for older people.
Home manager Lesley Weir said: "We've been excited about the refurbishment for some time and now that it is complete, we are really proud of the way things look and all the benefits the development gives to our residents. The improved sensory garden is particularly popular - having a really special outdoor space, particularly with summer approaching, is such a bonus."
