Bupa Care Homes champion the apprentice
25 April 2006
The government has recognised Bupa Care Homes as taking the lead in the training of young people.
Education Secretary, Ruth Kelly presented the care home provider with an Apprenticeship Commitment Certificate at a reception held in Whitehall in London.
The presentation was made as senior business leaders and MPs gathered at the launch of the employer led Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network, designed to champion apprenticeships to businesses.
Currently Bupa Care Homes has about 300 apprenticeships. The company runs around 300 care homes up and down the country, employing 27,000 staff.
Peter Ludford, director of service development for Bupa Care Homes, said: "The dedication of our people is the most important factor in delivering high quality care tailored to residents’ individual needs, which is why we invest heavily in training and development.
"Our care workers are the key to our business and to be recognised in this way is an acknowledgement of our pledge to training and our commitment to apprenticeships."
In 2005 Bupa Care Homes invested £5 million in training, more than ever before.
