Former Skipton orphanage provides a new home for retirees
26 July 2006
Prospective purchasers now have their first opportunity in years to look round the former orphanage in Carleton Road, Skipton from Friday 28 July.
Burnside House, which is currently being transformed into a luxury retirement development of apartments and mews bungalows, will be opening its doors by appointment this Friday, with the launch of its first show flat.
The development, at Burnside House, Carleton Road which was originally built in 1874, is set in open countryside, with panoramic views over Aire Valley. It is also only a short walk from the centre of Skipton.
All of the 40 one and two bedroom properties benefit from views over either the landscaped gardens or the professionally designed courtyard and are equipped with a 24-hour emergency call system, specially designed communal areas and dedicated home manager services.
Bupa’s Goldsborough Estates has signed a 10 year management agreement with Cawder Construction who are developing Burnside House and jointly they are selling agents for the luxury retirement properties.
Simon Crewe, operations director, Goldsborough Estates, said: “We are delighted to be working on this exciting development with Cawder Construction. Burnside House is a beautiful building which will cater for all our resident’s needs, while also allowing them to retain their independence.”
Burnside House is steeped in local history. It was originally built by the successful local businessman, John Richard Wilkinson, however, after his death, the building was used as an officer’s mess during World War ll. At the end of the war it was converted into an orphanage.
Prices for the development range from £155,000 to £225,000. A show flat will be open for viewings from Friday 28 July 2006. To make an appointment for a viewing, please contact Wendy Tonge on 0800 731 6287.
