Dreams come true for Bupa staff
28 April 2006
Dreams have become a reality for more than 100 employees in Bupa Care Homes, who have been the lucky ones picked out at random to win a “Holiday of a Lifetime”.
Bupa runs the competition every year to thank its staff for their hard work. Twenty members of staff have won the top prize of £3,000. People will be jetting off on a variety of trips worldwide including one care assistant who is going to Australia to visit her cousin.
Karen Heeley, care assistant at Bupa’s Brookside Nursing Home in Bedford, will make her first trip abroad when she flies to the other side of the world to see her cousin Linda in Queensland, Australia.
Karen said: “I’ve only been as far as Scotland and Wales before and have never even had a passport, so the trip will be really memorable. Linda has lived in Australia for 40 years and I’ve always dreamed of visiting her.”
Eileen Canning, a domestic assistant from Bupa’s Admirals Reach Residential and Nursing Home, in Chelmsford, is looking forward to a family reunion at Disney World in Florida. She will be accompanied by her family and while in America will be reunited with her daughter Ann and her family who emigrated to Canada over 10 years ago.
“It will be great to be together in such a fantastic place. What makes it even more special is that my husband turns 65 this year so he can look forward to celebrating his birthday in style,” said Eileen.
Julia Hurst, Bupa Care Services’ human resources director, said: “We have around 27,000 people working in our care homes including carers, nurses, and support staff in over 290 sites around the UK. Our people do a fantastic job, sometimes under difficult circumstances and it’s great to have an opportunity to say thank you. The “Holiday of a Lifetime” competition is designed to recognise our employees for the sterling work they do and provide the winners with an experience they’ll never forget.”
