Triple Bupa benefits for 3

28 September 2005

The UK's first video mobile network has chosen Bupa to look after the health and well-being of its employees in a contract with Bupa UK Insurance, Bupa International and Bupa Wellness.

Following a complete audit of 3's healthcare needs, carried out by independent intermediaries Jelf Healthcare, Bupa designed the 3LifeHealth & Wellbeing package, which provides the company with a fully integrated healthcare solution at a cost-effective price. The 3Life package will support and promote the health and wellbeing of the company’s people, reduce the length of time that people are away from the workplace if they fall ill, and reduce the cost of absence and health-related insurances to 3.

Bupa will provide medical insurance for 3 employees as well as an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for employees and their families, giving them access to 24-hour telephone counselling and support on issues from money management to legal concerns.

Managed by Bupa, the ‘3 Health Hub’ will identify instances where employees could benefit from a personalised programme to restore them to health. Bupa nurses will be on hand to assist employees and their managers and will suggest the best solution for each individual.

Bupa Wellness will provide regular health assessments for people in executive positions, while Bupa International will provide medical insurance to employees of 3 working overseas.

Soraya Chamberlain, Bupa’s national accounts manager for new business, said: "3 is a young, dynamic and fast growing company competing in a highly competitive market. In this environment, and with most employees in their late 20s to early 30s, it is essential that the company identifies ways to effectively support the overall health and wellbeing of its people.

"Diet and nutrition is an important aspect in which Bupa will become involved, with regular health promotions to employees. This will involve organising health awareness days at the main 3 sites, alongside providing regular health, nutrition and lifestyle content for the 3 Health & Wellbeing website currently under development.”

John Vickerman, 3’s People and Property Director, said it was beneficial to 3 and its employees to bring together all the ingredients of health and wellbeing services under one provider. 3 also has a track record of developing innovative people policies and practices and this agreement with Bupa supports 3’s market-leading approach to human resources.

"Bupa shared our vision of the future of health and wellbeing and could offer the expert advice and range of services that we were looking for. The 3 Health Hub will give managers access to expert medical support when someone falls ill and ensure we catch sickness issues at an early stage.”
