Southampton care home is spruced up thanks to Bupa
30 April 2008
Facilities for older people at a local Southampton care home, Wilton Manor, have been given a major boost thanks to an investment of over £200,000 by Bupa, one of the UK's leading care home providers.
Thanks to the investment, Wilton Manor, located on Wilton Avenue, now offers its residents a landscaped garden with summer house and gazebo. A sensory garden is also soon to be added in the grounds of the home, which will include an array of trees and shrubs and a soothing water feature. The home has been redecorated and new carpets, curtains and furniture have been introduced throughout, all of which have been carefully chosen with input from residents and their relatives, who have helped to choose colour schemes and the new décor for each of their bedrooms.
The development has proved a real hit for the residents and their families as well as all the staff at Wilton Manor and is part of Bupa's multi-million pound investment in the UK care homes sector, to help improve the standards of care for older people.
Home manager Sara Welham said: "We've been excited about the refurbishment for some time and now that it is complete, we are really proud of the way things look and all the benefits the development gives to our residents. The improved garden is particularly popular - having a really special outdoor space, particularly with summer approaching, is such a bonus."
Resident Joan Bower commented on her delight of the newly decorated home: "The home is looking lovely and I am really pleased to have been able to choose the colour scheme for my own room."
