Call the on-site health screening team on 0207 656 3765 and they will be able to talk you through the process of setting up a programme of on-site visits with Bupa.
Yes, the costs of health assessments can be shared with employees. You can offer a value/ceiling limit to each employee, providing them with the option to have additional tests which they can cover themselves.
This will depend on how many employees you would like to have tested. Bupa Wellness will ensure that, where possible, the maximum numbers of appointments are utilised on a daily basis.
Start and finishing times are usually within your normal office hours, although this can be modified depending on the Bupa nurse conducting the assessments.
Bupa Wellness can provide templates to support your in-house promotion.
We provide a wide range of health assessments and can help you choose the best option for your employees. Each assessment has the same aim - the early detection and prevention of illness. To help you choose the best assessments for your employees give us a call on 0845 600 3476.
The requirements for the service to run confidentially and efficiently are:
While eating healthily and taking regular exercise can reduce the risk of disease, it cannot guarantee that there are no underlying health problems. A health assessment is an excellent way for your employees to have a clear picture of their current health and wellbeing, and helps to identify areas of risk in the future. Many conditions are present with no obvious symptoms. They can be more successfully treated when detected early.
No. If your employees already have private medical insurance - dependant on their level of cover - it may be used for any treatment or further investigation of problems detected during the assessment. If they do not have private medical insurance, and a health concern is raised by the assessment, they may wish to declare this when taking out private medical insurance. Bupa Wellness retains all medical records. Results and personal details are not disclosed to any other part of Bupa or third party without consent.
A health assessment is not suited to people seeking a specialist medical opinion about an existing condition, and they should discuss this with their own doctor.
Depending on a person’s individual requirements the doctor will recommend a date for their next assessment. Our general recommendation is for annual or biannual visits.
The results of the assessment are confidential and will not be sent to anyone without your employee’s agreement. With their agreement we will forward these to their GP. They will not be sent to their medical insurer, including anyone looking after Bupa membership.
This is dependent on the assessment type chosen.
Height and weight check and a calculation of Body Mass Index
We take into account an individual’s height/weight ratio before advising on any weight problems.
Body fat percentage
Often seen as more important than actual weight – this measurement looks at the amount of fat that a person is carrying within their body which can have an impact on health risks.
Blood pressure and pulse rate measurement
High blood pressure is a major risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease and stroke, often referred to as the ‘silent’ disease. It can be treated in many ways, including changes in lifestyle and/or with medication. This is an important screening test for all ages.
Cholesterol
Cholesterol is another factor for everyone when measuring coronary risk.
A total cholesterol reading taken with a cardiocheck means a small amount of blood taken from a fingertip and tested there and then. The reading is a good indicator of cholesterol levels and means no one has to fast prior to their appointment. The result is also available within a couple of minutes.
Urinalysis
A straightforward test using a mid-stream sample which indicates immediately whether there is blood, protein, glucose or ketones (can denote diabetes or kidney problems) in a person’s urine.
Lung function test
This test can help diagnose various lung conditions, most commonly COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).
Our Bupa health professionals are specially trained to carry out the relevant tests, as well as provide lifestyle advice and counselling.
Bupa interviews all health professionals to get a good understanding of their skills and interests.
Most results will be available on the same day as part of the personal health report, which on future visits, will identify trends and compare changes. Some tests such as pathology tests, mammograms, cervical smear and prostate tests will need to go to special laboratories. All the results should be available within two weeks of the appointment.
Most of the test results will be available on the day, and employees will receive a results sheet summarising their results.
Bupa Wellness will treat all information and results provided in the strictest confidence. All staff attending the health-assessments will be asked to confirm their acceptance of any results being passed on to their GP.
Where results need further follow-up the health professional will explain this to the employee and write a referral letter that the employee can give to their own GP. This will be available to employees at the time of their assessment.
You will be required to handle the administration within your business.
As you will be paying a flat fee – the fee would remain the same regardless of the attendance rate.
You may want your employees to notify you of their failure to attend on a day to ensure that you can reschedule another employee.
A questionnaire is included in the confirmation pack, which will need to be completed before attending the health assessment. We will also provide an information sheet about the clinical tests included in the assessment. This should be read before the appointment so they know what to expect on the day.
The assessment will take place on-site in a dedicated, lockable room.
