Occupational health for railways
Bupa is the most experienced supplier of occupational health services to the railway industry.
For more than 30 years Bupa has helped to develop the Railway Group Standards and we offer a full range of services including:
We are Link-Up approved for both medical and screening services. We offer a wide range of solutions online, on-site and through our network of over 45 centres that are conveniently located at mainline stations.
A management referral happens when a manager wants clear, concise advice about the health and fitness of sick employees to enable them to deal fairly with each case. Our experienced occupational health professionals can assess the case and then provide recommendations on fitness for work, facilitating a speedy return or retirement due to ill-health.
With Bupa Absence Management services we take the calls when your employees call in sick. We’ll then report the absence to you and, where appropriate, give them clinical advice to help get them back to work as quickly as possible. We’ll be able to identify ‘hotspots’ and potential long-term problems, as well as make recommendations to reverse any trends that arise.
We screen safety critical employees for evidence of drug and alcohol misuse. A doctor reviews any positive results to make sure we identify the correct cause and ensure that there are no false positives. The testing is done as part of a pre-employment assessment and periodically we will conduct random testing. We can also provide:
Some medicines can affect the results of a drug and alcohol screening and others, such as flu remedies, can make people drowsy. Safety critical workers taking medicines must declare this to their managers. Our occupational health advisers will help your managers by checking for side effects that may affect an employee’s work.
As an employer you need to ensure that work is not affecting your employees health and vice versa. This includes ensuring you meet the medical requirements of the Railway Group Standards.
When a crisis happens it is important to be prepared for such instances to minimise the impact on your employees, your customers and your business. Bupa Trauma Management Services enable you to plan in advance and respond immediately to any crisis that may occur, ensuring that your employees can cope effectively, minimising any impact on organisational operation.
Bupa Employee Assistance gives employees access to confidential advice 24 hours a day, to help them deal with any difficulties they may face including financial and legal issues.
