Attendance management - rehabilitation and back to work advice Hide

A management referral happens when a manager wants clear, concise advice about the health and fitness of sick employees to enable them to deal fairly with each case. Our experienced occupational health professionals can assess the case and then provide recommendations on fitness for work, facilitating a speedy return or retirement due to ill-health.

With Bupa Absence Management services we take the calls when your employees call in sick. We’ll then report the absence to you and, where appropriate, give them clinical advice to help get them back to work as quickly as possible. We’ll be able to identify ‘hotspots’ and potential long-term problems, as well as make recommendations to reverse any trends that arise.

Drug and alcohol screening Hide

We screen safety critical employees for evidence of drug and alcohol misuse. A doctor reviews any positive results to make sure we identify the correct cause and ensure that there are no false positives. The testing is done as part of a pre-employment assessment and periodically we will conduct random testing. We can also provide:

• help where an employee has declared drug and/or alcohol problems and needs dependency counselling and rehabilitation
• training for managers on your company's drug and alcohol policies
• a national "for cause" testing if there is an incident or accident at work

Medication advice for safety-critical workers Hide

Some medicines can affect the results of a drug and alcohol screening and others, such as flu remedies, can make people drowsy. Safety critical workers taking medicines must declare this to their managers. Our occupational health advisers will help your managers by checking for side effects that may affect an employee’s work.
