Frequently asked questions

Administration - setting up your account

What benefits as a company do we get from having an on-site GP service? Hide

Being able to see a doctor on-site or nearby reduces the need to take time off and results in less disruption to the working day.

How do I decide which service to provide to my employees? Hide

Whatever your needs, we can tailor the service to your requirements and alter the arrangements whenever necessary. For further information or advice call us on 0845 600 3476*.

How much does it cost? Hide

The cost varies depending on your requirements. To discuss your options call us on 0845 600 3476*.

What facilities do I need to provide? Hide

The requirements for the service to run confidentially and efficiently are:

  • dedicated lockable room(s) for the duration of the GP appointment programme, including a desk and a chair
  • telephone
  • window blinds or black-out curtains (for windows and window door panels)
  • electrical point
  • hand-washing facilities nearby
  • toilet facilities nearby
  • dedicated contact on the day
  • health and safety
  • nominated first aid contact on the day
Once set up, how is the booking process administered? Hide

You will be able to discuss your specific needs when you call us.

What happens if an employee has private medical insurance? Hide

If your employees already have private medical insurance, dependant on their level of cover, it may be used for any treatment or for further investigation of problems detected during the appointment. Bupa Centres retain all medical records. Results and personal details are not disclosed to any other part of Bupa or to a third party without consent. If a health concern is raised by the appointment, the employee may wish to declare this when taking out private medical insurance.

What happens if the appointment needs to be changed? Hide

This depends on how you are paying for the service. If you are paying a day rate fee, for example, the fee would remain the same regardless of the attendance rate. Your account manager will discuss appropriate cancellation policies with you.

General questions for your employee

How do I book an appointment? Hide

This depends on the service that your company has agreed with Bupa. Please contact the HR/occupational health department within your own company to discuss your GP provision.

What happens if I need to change my appointment? Hide

If you should need to change or cancel your appointment, we can do this for you, but late notice cancellations and non-attendance may incur a cancellation fee – it will depend on the provision that your company has arranged for its employees.

How much does it cost? Hide

Again, this would depend on the provision your employer has chosen. Speak with your HR/occupational health department for details on this.

How do I pay? Hide

This depends on the arrangement your employer has made with Bupa – your company will either be invoiced, or you may have to pay the Bupa Centre and apply for a refund from your company later on. Speak to your HR/occupational health department for further details.

Statement of confidentiality Hide

The first time that you contact us, we will ask you to provide some personal details and open a confidential medical file for all your records. These are subject to the same strict rules of confidentiality that you would expect of any medical records. No information will be passed on to any third party without your consent.
