A veneer is a porcelain cover which coats the tooth like a false fingernail. Veneers are used to disguise discoloured teeth or gaps between widely spaced teeth.
What happens?
your dentist may take X-rays to assess the health of your mouth
a very thin layer of tooth may be trimmed away from the front surface and tip
a shade guide may be used to select the correct colour of porcelain
impressions of the lower and upper teeth are taken and sent to the laboratory, where the veneer is constructed
How is it fitted?
the veneer may be checked for colour and fit
if you and your dentist are happy with it, the veneer is permanently bonded to the prepared surface
