Bupa - the right direction

Because we are concerned solely with health and care, with Bupa you get more than just private medical cover. Below are just a few examples of the added benefits of Bupa membership.

Access to specialist treatment centres
Over the past few years, Bupa has been working to develop a network of specialist treatment centres and medical teams dedicated to the treatment of certain common cancers like those of the breast, bowel and bone. These help to ensure that our members receive the most appropriate treatment and have the best possible chance of making a full recovery.

Access to the Bupa HealthLine*
Staffed by fully trained qualified nurses offering confidential health advice and guidance, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Access to the business partner services helpline
To help make your job easier, we have developed a dedicated telephone helpline to assist with all your administration needs.

Access online
Bupa AccessOnline is a web management information system, that puts you in control of the administration of your company's Bupa private health care scheme. It allows you to quickly update member's records with complete security. It also provides general health information and details about your scheme.

Discretionary benefit option
An option to allow clients to deal with claims for consultants fees and outpatient consultations or therapies which exceed the benefit limits provided under the scheme and which members would need to pay themselves. It gives each client some authority to decide whether Bupa pays or reject the shortfall in benefits. As this increases the benefits available it generally increases the cost of cover, and if a shortfall is paid it will form part of any claims experience. To reduce the cost in administrating this, we pay this benefit automatically to an agreed level.

Health care services
Bupa works closely with the medical profession to ensure the delivery of eligible, appropriate and cost effective care.

About our hospitals

Two types of hospitals are available for use with these schemes: Bupa Partnership Network Hospitals and Bupa Participating Hospitals.

Bupa Partnership Network Hospitals
This refers to approximately 180 hospitals strategically located around the UK. Bupa has agreed special contracts with these hospitals, to assure the quality of accommodation within an agreed pricing structure allowing for a reduction in the subscription rate for our members. Cover normally provides for a single room with en suite facilities in a Bupa Partnership Network Hospital, for in-patient care. Sometimes treatment in a single room is clinically inappropriate, for example, patients who require high-dependency care.

Bupa Participating Hospitals
This refers to a larger national network of over 600 hospitals and incorporates the network Hospitals. Members have a choice of three scales for hospital accommodation ranging from Scale A (the highest) to Scale C (the lowest). Remember that the scale won't affect the quality of medical treatment and care you receive. Just ask us and we will help decide which is best for you.

Save 10% on other Bupa products*

As well as private medical cover, Bupa offers a range of complementary products and services designed to help meet your business' needs now and in the future. By subscribing to any of these products detailed below at the same time as you take out or renew any health directions scheme, you could benefit from a 10% discount off the usual cost of the product for a full 12 months**

Bupa Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs)
Introducing an EAP can help you identify and deal with issues such as bullying, harassment and stress. It can also assist your employees with financial and legal problems before they escalate and begin to affect your employees' performance. This can lead to reduced staff turnover and absence rates, as well as acting as a valuable staff recruitment and retention tool. The majority of businesses with an EAP in place report improvements in productivity. An EAP may also help reduce the risk of litigation for your business by demonstrating your duty of care to your employees.

Bupa group dental cover
Dental problems that go unchecked can lead to costly and involved treatment in the future, requiring time off work and causing disruption to your business. They can also cause significant discomfort, which may affect your employees' performance at work and lead to increased sickness absence. At a time when dental charges are rising and NHS dentistry is increasingly difficult to access, dental benefits are highly valued by employees, giving them greater choice and flexibility in when and where they are treated. Dental cover gives your employees the reassurance of knowing they can visit the dentist of their choice and that they will be reimbursed for all eligible treatment up to benefit limits.

Bupa travel cover
When your employees travel abroad on business, you need to be sure that they are covered for medical emergencies, including the cost of being transported home where necessary. They will also want the assurance of knowing that all the arrangements and costs of medical treatment are taken care of. With Bupa travel cover your employees not only receive full medical cover but also everything else you would expect from inclusive travel insurance, such as cover for cancellation or curtailment of their trip and loss of luggage or cash. Discounts are only available for complete cover for up to 50 employees.
