If you’re planning to travel abroad you may need a vaccination. We can provide your vaccinations against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

Before you travel, it is important to find out whether any vaccinations or antimalarials are required or recommended for your trip. Some countries can restrict entry if you are not protected against certain diseases whilst others can carry strong recommendations dependent on your planned activities or planned accommodation.

An ideal timeframe to seek advice before you travel would be approximately six to eight weeks before departure although some vaccinations can be given with less notice. It is always worth checking no matter how short notice your trip is.

Bupa is proud to work in partnership with MASTA - the Medical Advisory Service for Travellers Abroad - to deliver travel health services including travel health advice, vaccinations, and antimalarials. Travel services are available at a range of Bupa Health Centres. MASTA‘s services are also available to those aged under 18.

  • Find out the potential health risks of your journey by visiting MASTA at www.masta-travel-health.com. MASTA has been at the forefront of travel health for over 30 years and has designed a unique travel health brief to provide comprehensive and accurate travel health advice tailored to your needs.

    It is a good idea to have a copy of your vaccination history with you at your initial appointment to help the nurse advise you about vaccines that may be recommended for you.

    Depending on where you’re going and what may be required or recommended for your trip, some vaccines can be given at short notice whilst others can take a number of weeks to develop full immunity. Given these variations, it is best to give yourself enough time by planning ahead. A travel health risk assessment with a nurse, either in clinic or over the telephone from the comfort of your own home or office will give you a clear indication of the risks and benefits of receiving vaccinations or antimalarials. You will also receive advice regarding additional preventative precautions, all tailored around your individual circumstances and plans.
  • You will need to give 24 hours notice to change a booking or make a cancellation. Charges for doing this are as follows:
    • more than eight weeks – no charge
    • four to eight weeks – half the appointment fee
    • less than four weeks – full appointment fee
  • Vaccines generally work on our immune systems by stimulating them to produce antibodies, which are substances the body manufactures to fight off disease. They make our bodies think we have previously been infected with the disease by triggering our immune systems to produce their own antibodies to the disease. If you come into contact with the disease and you have been vaccinated your immune system will recognise the disease from its memory and will immediately produce the antibodies needed to fight it.
  • If you are pregnant or think that you may be, you should seek advice about travel vaccinations well in advance of any planned trips away. Some vaccinations are deemed safe in pregnancy whereas others are not so you should seek advice from your doctor or midwife or contact us for clarification. Travelling to places where there’s a high risk of particular diseases, such as yellow fever or malaria may involve an unacceptable level of risk for some women and some trips may be better postponed or cancelled as a result. If the trip is unavoidable, you should always discuss your plans with a medical professional to get the best advice about immunisation.
  • In general, children and infants have the same travel considerations as adults when it comes to tropical diseases. If you need to travel with your child when they are particularly young, their childhood immunisation schedule should be up to date before leaving. We do not recommend taking children abroad until they have completed their initial course of primary vaccinations, wherever possible. Some travel vaccinations are not recommended for children at all under two years of age. We will be able to give you more information about travelling with children and what they can or can’t have in terms of travel health vaccinations or antimalarials.
  • If you have any existing health conditions or disabilities it is wise to have a medical check prior to travelling to ensure that your condition is stable. Having an existing condition may also put you at a higher risk of complications from some infectious diseases. In which case, you may be advised to have certain vaccines for protection, or be immunised again at a later date.

    The risk assessment carried out by the nurse will take into consideration, your existing condition, your destination and your medical history including any relevant medications or treatments. The nurse will be able to advise you of your options by giving you the advice and information you need to help plan your trip and travel safely.
  • All customers are welcome to attend Bupa Centres. Please let us know of any disability at the time of booking so that special arrangements and/or an extended appointment can be made for you if necessary. For customers with restricted mobility we may need to give additional instructions regarding parking or access to the building. Customers with other difficulties such as communication problems should, where possible, arrange for a friend, relative or other assistant to accompany them. For example, this could include a signer.
  • You can pay by credit or debit card, cheque or cash after your treatment.

  • Our opening hours vary by centre, but appointments are usually available on weekdays from 8.30am to 5.15pm. Evening appointments may also be available, please ask for details.
