The link between diet and health
Diet has long been recognised as an important contributor to health and may help prevent life threatening diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease (coronary heart disease and stroke). Eating the right types, mixture and amounts of foods is important for health for a variety of reasons, including:
- less risk of becoming overweight
- less risk of developing heart disease
- less risk of developing osteoporosis
- less constipation, and other bowel disorders
Eating well helps us to feel more energetic and creates a sense of well-being.
Especially when combined with a sensible exercise programme, it enables us to keep in shape physically and look good, which in turn makes us feel good about ourselves. By choosing a healthy diet you can literally 'glow' with vitality - healthy skin and healthy hair.
Eating healthily can help combat stress and protect against minor ailments such as colds, flu and female problems such as PMS.
