Supporting the Department of Health's Sponsored Review of NHS Homecare Medicines - "Homecare Medicines - Towards a Vision for the Future"
The review, which was conducted by Mark Hackett and launched in December 2011, examined the UK's clinical homecare market and looked at ways to develop solutions that support NHS Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention ("QIPP") agenda.
Steve Flanagan, Managing Director, Bupa Home Healthcare, said, “We welcome the publication of Mark Hackett’s report. The report highlights the important role home healthcare can play – it’s beneficial to patient care, supports patient choice and is cost effective for the NHS. The report also highlights that there needs to be more robust and integrated governance mechanisms which we fully support.
“In November 2011 we published a report that concluded the NHS could save £1.7 billion a year through greater use of home healthcare to free up hospital beds. We believe home healthcare is a win-win – the NHS can save money and patients prefer it as they’re able to get on with their lives. We’re calling for home healthcare to be a standard offer for all patients in NHS care.”
