A trusted partner in home-based chemotherapy

Bupa Home Healthcare is a trusted partner of the NHS, private medical insurers, self-pay patients and referring clinicians.

Today, patients and their families are becoming increasingly aware of the opportunity to receive chemotherapy in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

Funders of healthcare, service commissioners and clinicians are seeking to blend traditional and well established clinical practice with the wider availability of out-of-hospital treatment – thereby responding to both the real operational pressures within busy hospitals and patient choice.

We are committed to ensuring that patients treated in the comfort of their own home receive the best possible care and attention at all times. We strive to work effectively with referring consultants by building strong and trusted partnerships. You and your patients should experience homecare that is aligned with the patient’s overall care, a natural extension of your clinical practice.

Treatments and infrastructure

Our treatments include:

  • Home-based IV and oral chemotherapy across a broad range of regimens as well as the supply of all associated ancillary products and equipment
  • Supportive treatments including biphosphonates, analgesia, antiemetics and IV antibiotics
  • Monoclonal antibody treatments

We provide a comprehensive home chemotherapy service including compounding, dispensing and delivery of chemotherapy drugs, along with nursing care in the patient's home.

The infrastructure supporting the service includes:

  • A dedicated and experienced team of oncology nurses, licensed and inspected by the Care Quality Commission and the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care
  • Dedicated oncology pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • A dedicated oncology patient co-ordination team
  • An out-of-hours advice line, where there is always a pharmacist and oncology nurse on call
  • Our own nationwide distribution service and a validated cold-chain with a specially selected and fully trained team of drivers
  • Three in-house compounding facilities, each with multiple clean rooms, an MHRA Specials Manufacturing Licence for the aseptic preparation of injectable solutions and purpose built quality control laboratories

Patients we treat

Our home chemotherapy service is currently provided to:

  • NHS patients
  • Patients covered by many of the UK's private medical insurers
  • Patients who are funding their own treatent (self-pay patients)

In all cases patients will remain under the overall care of their cancer specialist (oncologist). Patients who are interested in receiving their chemotherapy treatment at home should initially discuss this option with their oncologist.

We are happy to discuss any questions about home chemotherapy with patients. Our oncology patient co-ordination team can be contacted on 0800 082 5021.
