Thank you for your interest in joining the Bupa Mental Health and Wellbeing (MHW) Therapist Network.
Following feedback from mental health therapists, professional bodies and customers, we have improved our approach to delivering mental health services.
To support this we have established a network of qualified and experienced mental health therapists, who meet Bupa criteria and are accredited by, or registered with, appropriate bodies. Bupa members requiring access to talking therapies now need to seek treatment from these therapists in order to make a claim.
We are enhancing the services we offer therapists who join the network to include a dedicated support team, faster bill payment via our secure Providers Online website and less administration.
We are also looking at how we might offer you more support in the future, for example by increasing opportunities to promote your practice to Bupa members online.
To apply to join the MHW network please complete our online application form. Information to help you is available below and in documents you will find at each step of the application process. Please note that the application process is for individual therapists and each therapist in a practice must have their own individual recognition.
The criteria to join the MHW therapist network fall into three areas: professional, customer service and administrative. Here is a list of the principal professional criteria:
Counsellors, psychotherapists and CBT practitioners: must be accredited with BACP, UKCP, BPC or BABCP and have at least five years’ experience in practice.
Psychologists: must be registered with HPC. They must also be a chartered psychologist for at least five years.
All therapists: must have Personal Professional Indemnity Insurance for their private practice and must have had an enhanced CRB disclosure check within the last year. They must undergo regular supervision, preferably with an accredited supervisor.
We ask that our members receive therapy which is time limited and guided by the supporting evidence and research. It should focus on supporting acute clinical need and helping to prevent relapse. However it is expected to be limited in duration and short term. We do not fund therapy for chronic conditions or ongoing maintenance / monitoring of a condition.
More detail about how to apply online can be found in the guide and on the application form.
The next application period to join the network will reopen in June 2011.
The online application form is easy to use and can be accessed from any computer’s internet browser. The software does not reside on personal computers and the exchange of all information is performed electronically.
We anticipate that completing the application form will take up to an hour, depending on the complexity of your practice.
If you are unable to complete your application in one session you can return to it later using the same computer and log on details.
