If you’ve applied for a job and we want to take your application further, the next step is an interview.

Here we explain what to expect at an interview.

Types of interview

For most care home jobs, you’ll be asked to meet a care home or regional manager at a care home. They’ll ask you questions about your experience, qualifications and ambitions.

Some roles (especially management or senior roles) may involve other types of interview, for example going to an assessment centre, taking a psychometric test or giving a presentation. We’ll let you know what sort of interview you’ll be given and give you all the information you need beforehand.

You are most likely to have a successful interview if you’re confident, have a positive attitude, and have done your homework.

At the interview

Arrive early - you need to show you are reliable and enthusiastic.
Make sure you’re clean and tidy – first impressions count.
An interview is a two-way process. Sell yourself, but also find out whether the job is right for you. The interviewer should feel that you’re as interested in the job and Bupa as they are in you.
Give full answers backed up with examples from your previous jobs, life experiences or the research you’ve done into Bupa and the job.
But don’t waffle! Listen to the question and keep to the point when answering.
Don't be negative about past employers, colleagues and jobs. Focus on what you’ve learned from past experiences.
Think about your body language. Make eye contact with the people interviewing you, sit up straight and don’t fidget.
