Bupa Wants Talent!

12 August 2009

Amateur "old-stagers" are being invited to show they can still "strut their stuff" by performing in local talent shows taking place in Bupa care homes across the country.

The 'Bupa Wants Talent' shows are being held as part of plans to mark UK Older People's Day (1st Oct), a national day of events that celebrate later life and the huge contribution that older people make to our society.

Siobhan Drane, Bupa's community consultant, said,

"Star performers like Bruce Forsyth, Shirley Bassey and Bernie Clifton are living proof that entertainers can still perform well into their 70s and 80s, so whether your talents lie in singing, dancing, flower arranging or being an expert on the pottery wheel, we want to hear from you. When it comes to talent, getting older doesn't mean reaching the end of the road - the show does go on!"

Comedian Bernie Clifton, perhaps best known for his ostrich routine and who is still entertaining crowds at the age of 73, is supporting 'Bupa Wants Talent'.

He said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of the country's older people and prove that the variety spirit is still alive and kicking. If you're ever caught looking back with nostalgia at how it used to be, now is the time to practice those scales, dust off those props, dig out your favourite jokes and come and perform on stage."

Altogether, over 300 care homes up and down the country are preparing to host 'Bupa Wants Talent' shows, giving thousands of residents and older people in their local communities a chance to shine.

Anyone wanting to find out more information, or to register their interest in taking part in a local 'Bupa Wants Talent' show, should call 0845 600 4622, email talent@bupa.com or write to Bupa Wants Talent, Bupa, Bridge House, Outwood Lane, Leeds, LS18 4UP.

Participants must be over 65 years old and the talent shows are scheduled to take place at the beginning of October. Individuals will be asked to perform for a maximum of five minutes each.
