Jessie Paisley opens dementia unit at Bupa nursing home

10 February 2009

The memory of Bob Paisley will be celebrated on Friday 6 February at Bupa’s Arncliffe Court Nursing and Residential Home, with the opening of the ‘Paisley Unit’, a newly refurbished specialist unit caring for people with dementia.

The Liverpool Football Club legend was a resident at Arncliffe Court for a number of years. To honour him, his widow Jessie Paisley will be joined by residents and care staff when she opens the unit by cutting a ribbon and planting a tree to mark the great man’s life and the fantastic redevelopment that will bear his name.

The top-to-toe refurbishment of the ‘Paisley Unit’ will be the new home for 30 residents. Especially designed for people with dementia, the redevelopment will see the whole unit transformed.

Among the host of features are ‘memory triggers’ to help stimulate residents’ recollections including vibrant colours, pictures, memory boxes1, themed rooms and their own sensory garden. The ‘Paisley Unit’ also has totally refurbished bedrooms, bathrooms, dining area and lounge.

Arncliffe Court home manager, Janet Nixon, said: “We’ve made every effort to ensure that the makeover has achieved the perfect finish and to give our residents a wonderful new home. We are extremely proud of the unit and we are honoured that it will bear the name of such a great man, Bob Paisley.” The opening event will take place between 12pm and 3pm.

The redevelopment is part of a multi-million pound investment programme in the UK care homes sector by BUPA to help improve the standard of care for older people.

Gary Wall, the maintenance manager at Arncliffe Court, said: “Bob Paisley is a true football legend and even as an avid Everton fan I feel that naming a unit in his memory, at the place he spent his final years, is a fitting tribute to one of life’s true gentlemen.”

Arncliffe Court Nursing and Residential Home is a modern, purpose-built home designed specifically to meet the needs of older residents and is situated in the Halewood area of Liverpool. The care home has a two star ‘good’ rating from CSCI, the care home regulator.
