Cumbria dementia nursing home re-launches

26 June 2009

Residents at Bupa’s Beacon Edge specialist nursing home in Penrith unveiled their newly refurbished home on Wednesday 24 June.

Joining the residents to celebrate Bupa’s £200,000 refurbishment were a host of healthcare professionals who talked about ‘dementia care in practice’ - a topic high on the agenda of many healthcare professionals. Friends and family also enjoyed live music over tea and cakes.

The 38-bed home, located on the beautiful Beacon Edge, has been redecorated with new carpets, curtains and furniture, plasma televisions in the lounge area and the new courtyard garden in the heart of the home provides a calm, green area for the residents to enjoy.

Beacon Edge specialist nursing home has taken pride in complementary approaches to care allowing residents to choose among a variety of therapies including hand massages, aromatherapy, visualisation and even pet therapy. The re-launch will show demonstrations of these practices throughout the afternoon.

Beth Lannigan, home manager, said: "The refurbishment has proved a real hit for the residents and their families as well as all the staff at the care home. It has really brightened up the home, making it even more warm and welcoming - we now have a wonderful interior and externally we have one of the most spectacular views across town!”

The new project is part of Bupa’s £40 million investment drive to improve standards of care for older people within the UK.
