Food and drink in Bupa care homes

Food is an important part of our residents’ lives and we’re proud of the quality and variety of food we offer. Our menus are tailored to residents’ individual dietary and medical needs, and we make sure personal likes and dislikes are catered for.

Fresh, seasonal cooking

Our chefs use fresh ingredients, sometimes grown in our own gardens, to give our residents delicious, nutritious, seasonal food. Residents can have a cooked or continental breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon tea (often with homemade cakes) an evening meal and a range of evening snacks.

Our homes have four-weekly menu cycles, which are changed at least twice a year. And we hold monthly themed food days – often in-line with our ‘Big 12’ events. For example, we might have an Italian theme with classic dishes such as risotto and tiramisu.

Dietary and medical conditions

Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan or follow a special diet for medical reasons we can cater for you – we’ll talk to you about your requirements shortly after you arrive.

If you have food allergies we’ll also assess them. We can cater for most allergy-related diets.

Religious restrictions and cultural tastes

We have residents whose faith requires a specific diet, and residents who are used to a particular culture’s cuisine. We’ll talk to you about your needs shortly after you move into a home and do our best to put together menus that meet your needs and tastes.

Because strict kosher diets involve not only specific ingredients but also specific kitchen processes, it’s not always practical to cater for this diet in a non-kosher kitchen. You should speak to the home’s manager to discuss your individual requirements.

Drink

We serve tea and coffee with breakfast, mid-morning and with lunch and afternoon tea. We always ensure fresh water is available in each residents’ bedroom daily.

A few of our homes have bars, and residents and visitors are welcome to bring alcoholic drinks into any of our homes – providing there isn’t a medical reason why they should avoid consumption.

Wine, beer and sherry are usually available with our main meals.

Smoking

Each care home has its own smoking policy – the care home manager will be able to tell you about their home’s facilities. The health, safety and comfort of all our residents is always taken into account.
