Residents can be accommodated at Alveston Leys for long or short-term stays. Our registered nurses and experienced care staff provide exceptional nursing and personal care and were recently awarded the prestigious title of ‘Team of the Year’ at the 2013 Bupa Care Home Awards. They specialised team can offer support to those requiring convalescence, respite or palliative care, and for people with Parkinson’s disease.
Julia Joy has been the manager at Alveston Leys Nursing Home since 2001, where previously she was deputy manager at the home.
Julia is a qualified nurse and has a diploma in management studies and in nursing older people. She was also enlisted in Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps for four years.
Before joining Bupa, Julia worked as a senior staff nurse on the rehabilitation ward at Horton General Hospital. Married with two grown up sons, she loves salsa dancing and hiking in her spare time.
Mealtimes are an important, sociable part of the day at Alveston Leys. After understanding the likes and dislikes of each of our residents, our experienced chef creates a varied menu of nutritionally balanced meals. Prepared freshly every day, the choice of hot or cold dishes satisfies all tastes and dietary requirements.
Family and friends are most welcome to accompany their loved ones for mealtimes if they wish. Or if they prefer, they can pop in for afternoon tea, served with a slice of delicious home-made cake.
At Alvestone Leys, we reinforce the importance of leading as active a lifestyle as possible. Engaging daily activities are offered, which take into account individual interests and levels of mobility. Some might be inspired by arts and crafts, armchair exercises or continuing with their own favoured hobbies. Others may prefer quizzes and board games, reading or watching their favourite films.
Having strong links with the local community, our social calendar is usually busy. During ‘Communi-tea’ week, local people are invited into the home to meet residents and socialise, and local entertainers regularly visit to perform for us.
