The care we offer

Cold Springs Park specialises in dementia care, supported by the home's manager Michael Adams, who has extensive knowledge and experience in this field. Many residents come to stay for short breaks and respite, returning on a regular basis, which confirms the warm welcome and high standards of care the home offers.

Additionally, the team at Cold Springs Park provide care and support to those requiring convalescence or palliative care, or for  longer-term residential care and care for those with Parkinson's disease.

Food

Mealtimes are an important part of each day at Cold Springs Park. Our chef always ensures there is a tasty, seasonal menu, with a hot and cold choice available at each meal. Delicious home-made food is served daily, and there is a Night Bite menu available between the hours of 6.30pm and 6.30am.

Activities

Residents can take part in indoor activities such as cooking, painting or flower arranging. They can even take part in more spontaneous activities such as simply helping to tidy up if they wish. For those who like to be more actively involved in life at Cold Springs Park, there is a residents' committee.

Weather permitting, activities are often arranged out of doors - including afternoon tea, and an annual summer fete. Residents can also help with gardening if they wish.

Trips out may include visits to local markets, to the lovely Lake District countryside, to concerts, or going on “mystery tours”. Friends and relatives are always most welcome to join us on these trips.

Types of care

  • Dementia care
The most common mental infirmities in older people are dementia-related conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease. Depending on the level of confusion, care may be available in residential or nursing homes, but there are also specialist units with experienced nursing staff and facilities adapted to the needs of residents. If you're not sure of the care required, it is best to discuss this with the manager of your chosen home, who can arrange an assessment. Dementia care is often referred to as Elderly Mentally Infirm or EMI care.
  • Residential
Residential homes provide accommodation, meals and personal care. Personal care can include help with bathing and dressing. It offers support for those who are finding it difficult to cope at home without help. Or for those who need more help than their carers are able to provide. Residential care does not generally provide nursing care for any medical conditions. The minimum age for admission is normally 65. However, you should check with individual homes as some may accept younger residents.
  • Respite
Respite care can offer a welcome break for you and/or your carer and can be provided in most care homes, offering residents a temporary stay for perhaps a week or two. It can also help to cover periods of time when a carer is unavailable. Many Bupa care homes offer respite care if there is a room vacant.
  • Palliative
This is active, compassionate care of the chronically and terminally ill, directed towards improving the quality of life. Palliative care particularly focuses on the control of pain and symptoms. These specialist approaches include the individual, the family, carers and friends, and extend to bereavement and grief.
  • Parkinson's
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder caused by a shortage of chemical transmitter (dopamine) in the brain. People with Parkinson's disease develop stiffness, tremors and slow movement that can become worse over time. Some homes offer specialist care for people with conditions such as Parkinson's and Huntington's. We can also care for adults with learning disabilities who require a specialist supervised environment.
  • Convalescence
Homes that offer short term care for people recovering from illness or an operation.
