The care we offer
Freelands Croft provides nursing care, specialist care for those with dementia, comvalescence, palliative care and respite. We employ registered nurses, specialist carers and highly-trained care assistants to provide professional 24-hour support in a respectful and understanding manner.

Key features of Freelands Croft
Freelands Croft has been specifically designed to offer comfortable, well-equipped accommodation. All bedrooms offer ensuite facilities and are fully furnished with wardrobe, bookcase and bedside cabinet. Additionally there are four assisted bathrooms/shower rooms. Comfort is created with large communal areas including two lounges on each floor and separate dining areas.

The spacious activity room incorporates a built-in oven so that residents can participate in baking activities. Some rooms benefit from their own private garden, and all residents can enjoy the delightful, secure landscaped gardens with raised flower beds, seating and water feature. Or for the keen gardener, be more hands-on by making use of the greenhouse and residents allotment.

Types of care

  • Dementia care
The most common mental infirmities in older people are dementia-related conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease. Depending on the level of confusion, care may be available in residential or nursing homes, but there are also specialist units with experienced nursing staff and facilities adapted to the needs of residents. If you're not sure of the care required, it is best to discuss this with the manager of your chosen home, who can arrange an assessment. Dementia care is often referred to as Elderly Mentally Infirm or EMI care.
  • Respite
Respite care can offer a welcome break for you and/or your carer and can be provided in most care homes, offering residents a temporary stay for perhaps a week or two. It can also help to cover periods of time when a carer is unavailable. Many Bupa care homes offer respite care if there is a room vacant.
  • Palliative
This is active, compassionate care of the chronically and terminally ill, directed towards improving the quality of life. Palliative care particularly focuses on the control of pain and symptoms. These specialist approaches include the individual, the family, carers and friends, and extend to bereavement and grief.
  • Convalescence
Homes that offer short term care for people recovering from illness or an operation.
  • Nursing
Nursing homes provide accommodation, meals and personal care, but also have qualified nurses in constant attendance. Many also provide more specialist care for specific conditions. A nursing home will generally charge higher fees than a residential home because it offers care by qualified nurses, although the NHS now makes a contribution to nursing care fees (see 'Paying for care'). The minimum age for admission is normally 65, although you should check with individual homes as some are able to accept younger residents.
