Meadbank Nursing Centre

Meadbank is exceptionally well-located, just south of the River Thames, between two of London’s historic bridges - Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge. The home has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment to enhance both the home and the care it provides, offering a new range of services and facilities including a new range of luxury suites.

The care we offer
Meadbank combines excellent care with a wide choice of facilities. We offer several types of stay depending on the level of support required, from long term nursing care and nursing dementia care to short term care and respite. We also offer convalescence and rehabilitation care for those recovering from an accident, illness or operation, palliative care, and care for people with Parkinson's disease.

We have two visiting general practitioners and a qualified physiotherapist team in-house. Other holistic and complementary services can also be arranged.

Key features of Meadbank
Within the home, residents can relax in the welcoming Meadbank atmosphere and take advantage of the many elegant yet comfortable lounges and traditional, sociable dining areas – not to mention enjoying the award winning gardens. Recent extensive refurbishment has provided a new range of services and facilities to further compliment the excellent care offered at Meadbank. Meadbank also has an aromatherapy room offering manicures, pedicures and reflexology for some on-site pampering, as well as a well equipped physiotherapy gym for one-to-one rehabilitation.

The addition of the 'London Bridge Suites' has added further luxury, where residents can experience fine dining in the dedicated restaurant and the privacy of a private family lounge.

Bedrooms
Bedrooms are all tastefully decorated though we are happy to discuss particular decoration schemes if a resident wishes. All rooms have a telephone point, smoke detector and a 24-hour call system. Most are ensuite, and have views over the stunning gardens. We always encourage residents to personalise their rooms with their own belongings and small items of furniture if they wish, to add to the homely feel.

Garden
Meadbank boasts a number of attractive gardens which have been designed to particularly appeal to our residents, including a gold award winning Chelsea Flower Show garden. These are filled with many fragrant and colourful flowers, creating a delightfully scented area in the evenings. Residents can sit out on sunny days, to relax or watch the wildlife - robins and blue tits often visit our bird baths. Residents who enjoy gardening are welcome to lend a hand if they wish.

Types of care

  • Dementia care
The most common mental infirmities in older people are dementia-related conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease. Depending on the level of confusion, care may be available in residential or nursing homes, but there are also specialist units with experienced nursing staff and facilities adapted to the needs of residents. If you're not sure of the care required, it is best to discuss this with the manager of your chosen home, who can arrange an assessment. Dementia care is often referred to as Elderly Mentally Infirm or EMI care.
  • Respite
Respite care can offer a welcome break for you and/or your carer and can be provided in most care homes, offering residents a temporary stay for perhaps a week or two. It can also help to cover periods of time when a carer is unavailable. Many Bupa care homes offer respite care if there is a room vacant.
  • Palliative
This is active, compassionate care of the chronically and terminally ill, directed towards improving the quality of life. Palliative care particularly focuses on the control of pain and symptoms. These specialist approaches include the individual, the family, carers and friends, and extend to bereavement and grief.
  • Parkinson's
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder caused by a shortage of chemical transmitter (dopamine) in the brain. People with Parkinson's disease develop stiffness, tremors and slow movement that can become worse over time. Some homes offer specialist care for people with conditions such as Parkinson's and Huntington's. We can also care for adults with learning disabilities who require a specialist supervised environment.
  • Convalescence
Homes that offer short term care for people recovering from illness or an operation.
  • Nursing
Nursing homes provide accommodation, meals and personal care, but also have qualified nurses in constant attendance. Many also provide more specialist care for specific conditions. A nursing home will generally charge higher fees than a residential home because it offers care by qualified nurses, although the NHS now makes a contribution to nursing care fees (see 'Paying for care'). The minimum age for admission is normally 65, although you should check with individual homes as some are able to accept younger residents.
