The Dales is a specialist home for people with dementia and includes a specialist house for those under 65 with the disease. The homes offers a delightful village atmosphere in a convenient central location in Thornbury, on the Leeds and Bradford border.
We provide residential dementia care and nursing dementia care, including support for people under 65 with the disease. Our team of registered nurses and well trained care assistants also provide care and support to those requiring convalescence, palliative care and respite.
The Dales comprises five houses, each unique in it's care, staff, and environment. Each house has it's own garden plus dining and lounge facilities. There are some opportunities for all of the five houses to come together for social occasions.
Littondale offers nursing and residential dementia care for up to 22 residents. This house has a sociable feel and is great for people that enjoy company. Built all on one level, residents are able to walk around safely, interacting with others.
Rosedale provides nursing dementia care. Providing 18 beds, Rosedale offers care for those with dementia that have high dependency and complex care needs.
Wensleydale offers specialist care for older gentlemen and has 16 bedrooms. Residents are welcome to personalise their own if they wish.
Wharfedale provides specialised care and support to older people with dementia and who have some nursing and high dependency needs. Wharfdale can accommodate up to 19 residents, with bedrooms spread over two floors. Lift access is available.
Ribblesdale is a 12-bedroomed house that cares for younger adults (aged below 65).
Shortly after every resident’s arrival at The Dales, their food needs and preferences are discussed in detail. Our experienced chef will then cater for their individual requirements. Meals are home-made, nutritionally balanced, and cooked with fresh ingredients. A tasty, varied and seasonal menu is provided every day, with a choice of hot or cold options. Residents can choose to eat in the traditional dining rooms, or in the privacy of their own room, if they prefer.
At The Dales, enjoyable past-times are arranged by our activity team to suit all tastes and levels of ability. Included are arts and crafts, reminiscence therapy, movement to music and gentle gardening. Local entertainers and singers perform at the home we even have a donkey visit the home, which the residents love.
Religions representatives visit the home regularly and there is a monthly service for those who want to attend. We recognise the importance of simple activities, such as holding a friendly hand, chatting over a cup of tea or enjoying spontaneous daily activities such as setting the table for dinner or flower arranging.
