Huntington’s disease care

Huntington’s disease is a hereditary disorder that damages the nerve cells in certain areas of the brain. It affects around 8,000 people in the UK. Many of our care homes provide specialist Huntington’s disease care and support for those with Huntington’s disease.

What to expect at a Bupa care home

While each Bupa care home has its own individual style and range of facilities, all our homes give security, independence, and the very best expert care.

At a Bupa care home you’ll find:

  • expert, personal care 24-hours a day
  • comfortable, homely accommodation
  • daily activities to stimulate body and mind
  • a freshly-prepared, nutritionally balanced menu
  • laundry and cleaning services

Specialist Huntington’s disease care staff

Because of the variety and complex nature of symptoms, caring for residents with Huntington’s disease requires specialist knowledge and skills. Our carers have the clinical training, experience and patience needed to care for residents with Huntington’s disease.

We work closely with the Huntington’s Disease Association, who make frequent visits to our homes, and our staff complete the association’s recommended courses.

Individual care

All our residents have Personal Care Plans, which recognise their care needs and wishes as individuals. The plans document care requirements so we can tailor the care and support we give to each resident.

A crucial part of the care plan for residents with Huntington’s disease is ‘psychosocial care’. This means making sure residents with Huntington’s disease enjoy normal social activities, contact with loved ones and healthy interaction with those around them.

It’s not just our residents that need attention when it comes to Huntington’s disease. Huntington’s disease can have a huge impact on families and loved ones. Our staff are compassionate, sympathetic and understanding to all those affected.
