Respite and short stay care

Everyone needs a break from time to time. And that’s what respite care gives carers and the people they’re caring for.

With Bupa you are choosing a care home with the very highest standards of respite care and comfort. You don’t need Bupa health insurance to stay in our care homes, they are open to everyone.

Respite care that suits your needs

Respite care is a short, temporary stay in a care home. The respite care stay can be as short as a day, or as long as six weeks.

For carers, respite care is a chance to take a break from day-to-day responsibilities and spend some time looking after their own needs.

Respite care can be adapted to meet your own individual needs, and, depending on the respite care home you choose, can include:

  • residential care
  • nursing care
  • dementia care
  • young people with disabilities
  • specialist care such as Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and the young physically disabled

You’ll find more information about respite care in our guide 'Respite - expert care for short stays'.

What to expect at a Bupa care home

When you arrive you’ll be given an individual assessment to make sure all your needs are met. You’ll have the peace of mind of 24-hour care. And if you stay in one of our nursing homes, a nurse will be on hand 24 hours a day to provide care and reassurance.

You’ll be well looked after with a range of activities, delicious meals and laundry service. Other extras and additional services can include chiropody, hairdressing, and physiotherapy. If you have any extra requirements, we’ll be happy to discuss them with you.
