Choosing a Health Cash Plan

Health Cash Plan benefits

Health cash plans are designed to help with everyday healthcare costs and offer cash payments for a variety of healthcare needs, such as dental and optical fees. Bupa also offer health cash plans that provide help towards hospital stays.

Compare our health cash plans

Unlike health insurance plans, most health cash plans are designed to help you to pay for everyday healthcare costs, such as optical, dental and prescription charges. Bupa also offer health cash plans that help you with hospital stays. Whilst health cash plans don't offer the extensive cover that health insurance schemes do, they are extremely affordable and can help you to pay for some of your healthcare treatment.

Key features of cash plansShow all

Cash back for everyday healthcare Hide

Bupa offers health cash plans that cover everyday healthcare needs, like dental and optical treatment, and you can choose from a number of different levels of cover. We also offer Bupa Patient Cash, a health cash plan which provides benefits for specialist consultations, diagnostic scans, therapies and hospital stays.

Cash benefits for hospital treatment and stays Hide

When you claim on a Bupa Health Cash Plan, you'll receive cash back for your healthcare treatment. You can use the money to help to pay for private healthcare costs or, if you've had a NHS hospital stay, the cash is yours to spend as you choose.

Cover for complementary therapies Hide

If you need other complementary treatments – such as chiropody, osteopathy, chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture or homeopathy – to maintain your everyday health, you’ll find a number of our health cash plans offer benefits for those too.

You don’t have to be ill to benefit Hide

Our health cash plans don't just offer cover for treatment when you're ill. Some Bupa Health Cash Plans offer benefits for routine dental and optical check-ups and Bupa Health Assessments, to make sure you're in good shape. Advice is available from qualified nurses 24/7 on most of our health cash plans with our Bupa Helplines.

Low monthly payments Hide

A health cash plan can be an affordable alternative to health insurance. Health cash plans don't offer the same levels of benefits as health insurance schemes, so they usually cost much less. A Bupa Health Cash Plan could be the perfect option if you just want cover for everyday healthcare costs.

Easy to understand benefits Hide

Bupa Health Cash Plan benefits are easy to understand. Here are some examples of how they work:

  • David paid £55 for a check-up and scale and polish, and £95 for a filling at the dentist. Since he selected Bupa Health Cash Back level 3, he can claim back the full £150^.
  • David paid £14.80 for two medicines on prescription. On his Bupa Health Cash Back level 3 he can claim back £14.80, leaving him with £25.20^ to use during the rest of that benefit year.
Simple claims process Hide

To make your life easier, we’ve made our health cash plan claims process as simple as possible. With some of our health cash plans you don't even have to get your claim pre-authorised before you have treatment. You just pay the bill, submit a claim form with your receipt and we’ll refund you up to the benefit limits of your chosen health cash plan and level of cover.

If you claim for a hospital stay you only have to complete your claim form and get the hospital to stamp it confirming the reason and duration of your stay.

Prompt payment Hide

We process health cash plan claims really quickly – on average within just four working days from receipt of your correctly completed claim form and receipts. We can pay your cash back either via a personal cheque or straight into your bank account.

How do Bupa Health Cash Plans work?

You pay an affordable set monthly fee via direct debit, and when you have expenses such as dental, optical and prescription costs, you can claim back benefits in the form of cash payments. On some of Bupa’s Health Cash Plans you can even claim cash payments for NHS and private hospital stays.
